Urban Micro-Forests: A Story of Adaptation
My first video project after a serious accident that temporarily limited my right hand. Instead of filming with a shaky hand, I switched to still photography, using my phone and a compact camera for macro and focus-stacked shots, then animated them into video using AI motion animation tools. This was more than a technical workaround. It was a test of whether I could still produce and tell stories with video. This project proved the skills were still there.
The piece highlights Geneva's urban micro-forestry initiative (Forêt B), documenting an innovative approach to ecological restoration in dense urban spaces.
This project marked my first time using AI video tools professionally, specifically Luma Labs' Dream Machine for whom i hade the pleasure of being an Early Access Creator. The technology is powerful and raises important questions: How do we use these tools to augment our work without compromising creative integrity, especially for documentary? For me, the answer was clear: AI served as accessibility technology. It enabled me to continue creating when physical limitations would have otherwise stopped me. The composition, framing, subject selection, and storytelling remained entirely mine. AI simply bridged the gap between what I could envision and what my hand could execute. A principle moving forward: Technology should amplify human creativity and observation, not replace it.
The video was reshared by Geneva's Mayor, Alfonso Gomez, who initiated the city's micro-forest program.
